Morgan Wallen flips piano after technical issues during Denver show

Morgan Wallen’s Denver concert took an unexpected turn Friday night (May 29) when a technical issue during one of his biggest hits led to a memorable onstage moment.

While performing “Sand In My Boots” at Empower Field at Mile High, Wallen appeared to experience problems with the piano sound while seated at the instrument. As the song continued, the country superstar stood up and finished the performance without any accompaniment, relying solely on his voice as the crowd sang along.

After wrapping up the track, Wallen returned to the piano and tipped it over in a moment of visible frustration. Despite the technical hiccup, fans in attendance seemed to be divided by the act with many saying he sounded great acapella and other questioning his mental health.

Comments flooded in celebrating the stripped-back rendition. Some fans argued that Wallen sounded even better without the instrument, while others joked that the audience was enjoying a powerful a cappella performance while the singer was focused on the malfunctioning piano.

The Denver show also featured one of Wallen’s now-familiar tour traditions. Before taking the stage, he made his entrance alongside Denver Broncos legend John Elway, drawing a huge reaction from the hometown crowd.

Opening acts for the night included Brooks & Dunn, Gavin Adcock and Zach John King.

The performance marked the first of two scheduled shows in Denver on Wallen’s Still the Problem Tour. Following the weekend stop, the singer heads to Pittsburgh for back-to-back stadium dates before continuing a run of U.S. shows throughout the summer.

Wallen is currently touring behind his chart-topping album I’m the Problem, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and became one of the biggest country releases of the past year.
