Gracie Abrams has officially earned the first Number One album of her career with Daughter From Hell.
Abrams’s third studio album debuted at No. 1 on the Aug. 1st-dated chart with 124,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States during its first week, according to Luminate. It also marks the biggest opening week of Abrams’ career, surpassing the success of her previous release, The Secret of Us.
Earlier in the week, industry projections estimated Daughter From Hell would debut with between 120,000 and 130,000 equivalent album units, making Abrams the favorite to claim the top spot. The final total of 124,000 units comfortably secured her first Billboard 200 chart-topper.
The achievement follows a breakout year for Abrams. Her sophomore album, The Secret of Us, debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in 2024 with 89,000 equivalent album units. The deluxe edition of the album also produced Abrams’ first Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with “That’s So True,” helping cement her place as one of pop’s fastest-rising stars.
Ahead of Daughter From Hell‘s release, Abrams reflected on the inspiration behind the record during an intimate performance at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom.
“This album came from being kind of quiet after we had went our separate ways after tour ended,” she told the crowd. “Being in your 20s is so strange and weird, it can feel lonely in a new way and it can feel thrilling in a new way. You imagine your future differently all of a sudden and then your adolescence still feels like it’s right behind.”
The album reunites Abrams with longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner of The National, who produced both Good Riddance and The Secret of Us. Daughter From Hell also features songwriting contributions from Justin Vernon of Bon Iver, longtime collaborator Audrey Hobert, and Abrams’ partner, Paul Mescal, who co-wrote the track “Imaginary Friend.”
Following the album’s release, Abrams surprised fans by releasing two bonus tracks, “Love Letter” and “Out of Nowhere,” as digital downloads. She also took to social media to thank listeners for their overwhelming support.
“I’m so moved to hear from those of you who are connecting with the record so far,” Abrams wrote. “Your messages have made my heart grow ten sizes.”
With her first Billboard 200 No. 1 album now secured, Daughter From Hell marks another major milestone in Abrams’ rapid rise and continues what has already been a career-defining year for the singer-songwriter.
