Carly Rae Jepsen is turning up the lights for the “night” side of her upcoming double album, Day and Night.
The singer has released “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor,” the latest preview of her 24-track album, arriving Sept. 18. While previous singles “On Wires” and “After All” introduced listeners to the album’s dreamy, sun-soaked “day” half, the new track embraces the dancefloor with shimmering production and emotional vulnerability.
Despite its euphoric, club-ready sound, “Don’t Leave Me on the Dance Floor” explores the fear of abandonment, transforming heartbreak into an irresistible pop anthem. Jepsen co-wrote the song with producers CJ Baran and Arthur Besnainou, drawing inspiration from one of pop’s most iconic groups.
“I’d just been recording in Sweden and then traveled to London to see ABBA Voyage,” Jepsen shared. “I came home with a mission of making my own ABBA-esque pop song, something with a perfect pop melody, but with some updated production. I wanted a hook that made you feel like you had to participate and sing along.”
The single arrives alongside a striking new music video directed by playwright, actor, and screenwriter Jeremy O. Harris, who makes his music video directorial debut. The visual stars Alden Ehrenreich as a heartbroken man who, after receiving a devastating phone call from a lover played by Olivia Washington, finds solace through dance beneath glittering chandeliers and a disco ball while Jepsen performs the track. Choreography comes from Marc Crousillat, whose recent work includes Clairo’s “Terrapin.”
Harris explained that the song immediately resonated with him, saying Jepsen has a unique ability to transform complex emotions into unforgettable pop music. He added that the video reflects couples choosing to work through difficult moments together rather than walking away.
Day and Night will be released on Sept. 18 and marks Jepsen’s first full-length project since 2023’s The Loveliest Time. Following the album’s release, she’ll return to the stage as a headliner at the All Things Go Festival in New York City on Sept. 27, her first live performance of 2026.
