Olivia Rodrigo just released “serena joy” on streaming platforms. Announcing a portion of proceeds will be donated to the Daisy Chain Fields Fund.
The GRAMMY Award-winning, multi-platinum singer-songwriter has officially released “serena joy” globally, giving fans a new track just days before her highly anticipated Daisy Chain Fields festival in Irvine, California.
The song first made its debut in a very limited way last Friday, when “serena joy” was released exclusively on CD at Analog Records in Orange County. The one-store release gave local fans the first chance to hear the track, with its global release arriving just eight days before Daisy Chain Fields takes over Great Park on August 29.
Written by Rodrigo alongside longtime collaborator Dan Nigro during the sessions for her latest album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, “serena joy” leans into the punk side of Rodrigo’s artistry. The song is angsty, urgent and filled with the kind of protest energy that has become an important part of her music.
Daisy Chain Fields will feature an all-women lineup of artists, nonprofit organizations and communities coming together to support women and girls. A portion of the net proceeds from “serena joy” will also be donated to the Daisy Chain Fields Fund.
The limited physical release at Analog Records was another nod to Rodrigo’s longtime support of independent record stores. It also connected the new song directly to the Orange County community that will host the festival.
Rodrigo recently showed just how much independent record stores continue to mean to her when nearly 200 independent record stores across the country hosted midnight sale events for the release of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. The events marked the largest Record Store Day-organized midnight sale in at least a decade.
Now, “serena joy” is available for fans everywhere to stream and listen to.
For Rodrigo fans, there is another reason to be excited. The singer will perform “serena joy” live for the very first time at Daisy Chain Fields on Saturday, August 29.
The festival is shaping up to be much more than another music event, and the release of “serena joy” adds another piece to Rodrigo’s larger mission behind it.
