Peppa Pig has unexpectedly found herself at the center of one of the internet’s funniest celebrity feuds.
The beloved cartoon character appeared in Pitchfork’s “Over/Under” series this week, where she was asked to weigh in on a variety of artists and music topics. When Clairo’s name came up, Peppa delivered a response that immediately caught fans’ attention.
“I don’t know her,” she said while giving the camera an unmistakably shady look.
The moment quickly spread across social media, with fans joking that Peppa had declared war on the “Bags” singer. Before long, some real-life pop stars joined the conversation.
Charli XCX showed her support for Clairo by sending the singer a text that read, “Let’s f— her up,” alongside a screenshot of Peppa’s comment. Clairo later shared the exchange on X, turning the playful feud into one of the platform’s biggest viral moments.
PinkPantheress also got involved after noticing that Peppa had actually complimented her during the interview. The animated pig called the “Stateside” singer “underrated” before adding, “Does she like animals? Maybe she would like me, because I’m pink too. And everyone likes me.”
Despite the kind words, PinkPantheress chose loyalty over compliments, posting on X, “ain’t sh– sweet until you put respect on clairo.”
As it turns out, this “beef” may have roots stretching back years.
During her own appearance on Pitchfork’s “Over/Under” series in 2019, Clairo was asked about Peppa Pig and jokingly focused on the character’s famously towering height.
“Can I tell you something about Peppa Pig?” Clairo said. “She’s 7’1″. She’s the tallest pig in the world.”
She ultimately rated Peppa as underrated before continuing the joke.
“If she’s 7’1″, how tall is her mom? How tall are all the other pigs? Who’s keeping track? What are the proportions of this whole show?”
While Clairo’s comments were clearly made in jest, fans are now joking that Peppa has been holding onto the grudge ever since.
Of course, there’s also the possibility that Peppa really doesn’t know who Clairo is.
The animated star made it clear she has plenty of favorite pop artists, listing Rihanna, P!nk, Kelly Clarkson, Sabrina Carpenter, Britney Spears, Olivia Rodrigo, Beyoncé, Cher, Dua Lipa and Shakira among the singers she loves.
“Pop stars make the best music,” Peppa said. “One day, I’ll be the biggest pop star ever.”
