Olivia Rodrigo is back!
The singer released her long-awaited new single “Drop Dead,” marking the start of a fresh era tied to her upcoming album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. The project is set to arrive in June and will feature 13 tracks, serving as her first full-length release since 2023’s chart-topping album Guts.
“Drop Dead” offers fans an early glimpse into the emotional direction of the new album. In a recent interview with British Vogue, Rodrigo explained that the project leans heavily into the complexities of romance, describing it as a collection of “sad love songs.” She shared that many of her favorite love songs balance beauty with feelings of fear and longing, an idea that helped shape the album’s concept.
Rodrigo also opened up about how her perspective on love has evolved. She admitted that she once believed being in a happy relationship would automatically improve her sense of self, but found that reality is more complicated. While she still considers herself someone who deeply values love and commitment, she acknowledged that navigating relationships today can be difficult.
Ahead of the release, Rodrigo teased “Drop Dead” across social media with a series of short clips. In one video, she sips a Guinness while a snippet of the track plays alongside the caption “I hope you never finish that beer.” Another shows her looking out the window of a moving train, accompanied by the phrase “it’s feminine intuition” in pink text.
Expectations are high for the single’s performance. Rodrigo’s previous lead singles, “Drivers License” and “Vampire,” both debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, setting a strong precedent for this new chapter.
