Melanie Martinez releases new track ‘DISNEY PRINCESS’

DISNEY PRINCESS - Melanie Martinez

Multi-platinum singer-songwriter and filmmaker Melanie Martinez is pulling back the curtain on fame and femininity with her biting new single “DISNEY PRINCESS.” The edgy pop anthem takes aim at the commodification of women in entertainment and beyond, delivering a pointed message wrapped in Martinez’s signature theatrical production.

The track serves as the latest preview of her forthcoming album HADES, continuing the dystopian cinematic universe she has carefully constructed throughout her career. With sharp lyricism and towering production, the song reframes the age-old narrative of selling your soul for success, placing a distinctly modern and feminist lens on the concept.

“I love writing about the entertainment industry and how it affects women,” Martinez shared in a recent statement. “It’s a perfect microcosm of the world around us, how numb and disconnected you can become if you allow others to commodify you.”

In “DISNEY PRINCESS” Melanie sings, “We can go there faster than they can/ Faster than the average person/ Los Angeles, turn on your TV/ Come on, worship me, I’m perfect.”

Martinez first broke onto the scene in 2012 and has since cultivated a fiercely loyal global fan base through her conceptual storytelling and richly detailed worlds. Rather than simply releasing music, she has built a reputation for delivering fully immersive eras that blend fantasy, horror, and social commentary into one cohesive vision.

Her 2015 debut album “Cry Baby” went double platinum and produced a string of multi-platinum singles including “Dollhouse,” “Pity Party,” “Play Date,” “Pacify Her,” “Carousel,” “Mad Hatter,” and “Soap.” The project peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and remained on the chart for more than 200 nonconsecutive weeks, cementing her arrival as a major alternative pop force.

She maintained that momentum with back-to-back Top 3 debuts through the platinum-certified “K-12” in 2019 and “Portals” in 2023. All three albums opened at No. 1 on the Alternative chart, underscoring the strength of her niche but powerful audience.

The K-12 era expanded her vision even further with the release of a companion feature film, “K-12,” which debuted in the global box office Top 10 and reinforced her reputation as a multidisciplinary storyteller. During the accompanying tour, Martinez donated one dollar from every ticket sold to The Trevor Project, supporting crisis intervention and suicide prevention efforts for LGBTQ+ youth.

With Portals, Martinez hit another commercial high point as the singles “VOID” and “DEATH” both landed on the Billboard Hot 100. Beyond music and film, she has also expanded into the fragrance and lifestyle space. Her independent Cry Baby perfume launched in 2016 and quickly became a cult favorite, later followed by a 2023 partnership with Flower Shop Perfumes. Her scent line continues to rank among the top five best-sellers at ScentBar.

Martinez’s most recent live chapter arrived with 2024’s global arena run, The Trilogy Tour, which sold out venues worldwide including two consecutive nights at Madison Square Garden. Festival appearances at Lollapalooza in Chicago and Corona Capital in Mexico City further showcased her growing international reach. Check out our review of the tour here!

HADES is due for release on March 27.
