LA based singer-songwriter Gatlin is stepping into the spotlight with her deeply personal and fearless debut album, The Eldest Daughter, arriving October 3.
Rooted in her experience of growing up queer in a conservative, religious Florida community, The Eldest Daughter explores the tension between identity, family, and self-discovery. Through ten emotionally potent tracks, Gatlin confronts mental health, gender expectations, and the often painful process of unlearning the values imposed on her as a child. “I know now who I am, where I’m from, and where I’m going,” she reflects. “It’s not only about taking control of the life I’ve decided to live, but sticking up for it.”
Alongside the announcement, Gatlin shares her new single “Jesus Christ & Country Clubs,” co-written with Liza Owen (Carly Rae Jepsen, Selena Gomez) and Jennifer Decilveo (Miley Cyrus, Hozier). The track, both biting and hilarious, offers a direct critique of the hypocrisy she witnessed growing up, rejecting the pressure to conform in favor of full self-expression. “I played a part for so many years,” Gatlin shares. “When I finally left Florida, I really got to discover who I am… and parts of who I am are rejected by my community and family. This track is about not being able to fit in where I grew up and not wanting to.”
Also featured on The Eldest Daughter is fan favorite “If She Was A Boy”, a soul-searching anthem pulled from a rediscovered diary entry during her coming out journey. Upon its release in May, the song earned praise from Rolling Stone as a “Song You Need to Know” and was named one of GLAAD’s Best Songs of the Week.
With over 150 million streams to her name from earlier self-released work, Gatlin’s debut for Dualtone marks a turning point defined by bold, introspective storytelling and the power of reclaiming your narrative.
To support the album, Gatlin will embark on The Eldest Daughter Tour this fall with rising artist Noah Floersch, kicking off with a hometown show in Orlando on September 29. Release week highlights include stops at Washington D.C.’s Union Stage (Oct 2), Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg (Oct 6), and Boston’s Brighton Music Hall (Oct 7). Fans can catch her first with a Los Angeles performance at The Troubadour on July 31, joined by Charlie Burg.
