Chappell Roan is taking over pop music whether she like it not. The singer got emotional at a tour stop in Raleigh, NC last night about her sudden rise in stardom.
While performing her Midwest Princess Tour in North Carolina, Roan stopped herself from crying mid performance to be open with the crowd.
“I just want to be honest with the crowd: I just feel a little off today,” she said between breaths. “I think my career is just kind of going really fast and it’s really hard to keep up. I’m just being honest … I’m having a hard time today.”
She continued, “I’m sorry … I’m not trying to give you, like, a lesser show, it’s just that there’s a lot going on,” she said. “Thank you for understanding. This is all I’ve ever wanted — it’s just heavy sometimes.”
One year after the release of her debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Chappell Roan has three songs currently charting on the Billboard Hot 100: “Good Luck, Babe” at No. 26, “Red Wine Supernova” at No. 75 and “Hot to Go!” at No. 80.
The album also rose to a new peak at no. 12 on the Billboard Album Chart. This follows Chappell’s run as Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts Tour opener and the release of her new single “Good Luck, Babe.”
Over the weekend, Chappel Roan performed at the Governor’s Ball Music Festival in New York City on Sunday dressed fully as the Statue of Liberty.
Roan performed hit songs such as “HOT TO GO!” and “Good Luck, Babe” with her skin painted green to match Lady Liberty. Her “drag persona” was a response to the White House asking her to perform for Pride month.
