On Wednesday, Lorde posted a cryptic Instagram carousel that could potentially hint to her fourth musical project with a collection of symbols in the caption having ‘L4’ among them.
“Use the existing tools wherever possible ©𝑳ĿŁု⑷♶,” Lorde wrote in the caption. “If the tools do not exist you are spiritually obliged to create them © 𝑳ĿŁု⑷♶⚤✬✹❁✰㉗✬✹❁🀥⚭ 𓆝𓃹𓁙.”
The post itself features six images. The first two show the singer leaning over a balcony in a black dress with puffy sleeves, the second of which curiously appears to depict her spitting over the edge. The third image follows the theme, picturing a hand holding a tiny white pill with the word ‘SPIT’ on it. The next image is a stack of books (Getting Lost by Annie Ernaux, After the Ecstasy, The Laundry by Jack Kornfield, and Playboy by Constance Debré) upon which an ash tray filled with jewelry rests. The fifth image is a black-and-white selfie of Lorde leaning on a towel-covered chair with her hair wet, and the final image pictures the singer in what looks like a hotel room, wearing the same black dress as the first two images.
Lorde’s last album came in the summer of 2021, with Solar Power, a twist in tone following her previous two, Melodrama and Pure Heroine. Ever since, fans have been praying for more, and now it finally seems as though the singer is preparing to announce new music. Or maybe it means nothing!
