Following the breakout success of “Messy” and her recovery from addiction, Lola Young has returned with her third studio album, I’m Only Fu***ng Myself.
The London-born rocker opens up about her real-life struggles as she navigates adulthood. On this record, she closes a chapter of chaos that echoes the massive hit “Messy” from her 2024 album This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway. The new project strikes a balance between raw confession and anthemic release, earning its place among 2025’s most significant offerings.
The album opens with a blunt statement: “F*** Everyone.” Satirical as it may be, that sentiment captures exactly where Lola seems to be mentally while writing these songs. She’s recovering from a cocaine addiction, dealing with the pressures of sudden fame, reeling from heartbreak, and still ready to give life another shot. The opener is loud and messy, yet the production demands attention, with guitars that rasp as fiercely as Lola’s own vocals.
That fiery energy is offset by the record’s softer moments, making it a surprisingly concise listen. The heart of IOFM lies in “Spiders.” “Get in your car/ Don’t cause a scene/ Make me feel like I’m not incomplete for once,” she belts in a soaring power ballad before declaring, “You’re not a man if you don’t have me.” It’s one of her rawest performances to date.
The closing track, “who f**king cares?,” is the album’s most ambient moment. Written and recorded as a simple voice memo with only voice and guitar, its lyrics capture the restless thoughts that creep in right before surrender to social normalty. It’s an ending that feels both fragile and fearless, perfectly encapsulating the turbulent honesty at the core of the album.
